When St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in Ireland on March 17th, parades take place across the country. By far the largest St. Patrick's parade was in Galway but I opted for a small, tranquil parade in County Sligo in Ballymote.
Even before the more than forty groups drove down Lord Edward Street, there was a musical program to warm up.
Then finally at 3:30 p.m. it started. Led by a piper and St. Patrick, the procession started past the hundreds of onlookers. These included the Church Hill Silver Band, the Bunninadden GAA Club, the Mini Owners with historic Mini coopers, the Agharonan Pipe Band and various local businesses that presented themselves in a funny, colourful or loud engine way.
