WAHT'S THE CRAIC

ABOUT VISUALCRAIC

WHO IS IT?

The creative force behind VISUALCRAIC is Marcus Posthumus, a former celebrity photographer with a career spanning over fifteen years in paparazzi business. During this time, he worked as a paparazzo capturing candid moments of celebrities as he pursued them across the globe - by car, boat, and even helicopter.

After ending his active career as a paparazzo, he was invited as a guest lecturer at a private university, where he gave talks on ethics - focusing on the methods and motivations of paparazzi. His lectures offered behind-the-scenes insights into the lives of celebrities, while also addressing the moral implications of his profession.

Since 2024, he has also been active as a music producer. Drawing on his past, he wrote and produced the song "Dose of Fame" for Róisín O'Hara which explores the experience of living in the spotlight through imagery of paparazzi.

Today, he has returned to working as a paparazzo, but with a new focus: he no longer photographs celebrities. Instead, he captures images that embody the true essence of paparazzi photography -candid, spontaneous moments that only a seasoned paparazzo can create.

His unique skill set has made him especially popular for weddings, where he discreetly documents genuine, unposed moments without interrupting the flow of the ceremony.

Beyond weddings, his paparazzi-style photo shoots have become highly sought after, particularly among female clients, for whom he crafts complete stories - designing layouts and writing accompanying text to give the photos the authentic feel of a magazine spread.

Additionally, his paparazzi-inspired imagery has found a place in the world of advertising, where the raw and natural aesthetic resonates with brands looking to stand out.

HOW IT STARTED

In the late 90s Marcus Posthumus started his career at a local city magazine called „BREMER“ in his hometown Bremen in Germany.

The majority of people are familiar with Beck's Beer, which is brewed beside the Weser River, the soccer team Werder Bremen or the tale of the "Bremer Stadtmusikanten".

A couple of years later, he found himself in the editorial office of the "BILD Zeitung", Germany's largest tabloid newspaper. An exciting time that greatly influenced his life with many reports, faces and photos still remain in his memory to this day.

L.A. CALLING

While working for „BILD“,  he stumbled into a much more lucrative business and shifted his attention to taking pictures of celebrities. Soon he became one of the top German paparazzi.

However, Germany quickly grew to be too little for the young lad who yearned to travel the world, so he spent the summers pursuing celebrities in Saint Tropez / France, Porto Cervo / Italy, Puerto Portals / Spain, or Monte Carlo / Monaco.

In 2010 the German TV network RTL filmed several reports with him, for a brief period of time and he also gained a little amount of notoriety.

Soon the summer months were no longer enough to satisfy his hunger for hunting.

He wanted to go to the metropolises and the big wide world lured him to America.

In the meantime he had teamed up with a video colleague and they first tried their luck in Miami.
A year later they went to Los Angeles and rented an apartment in Beverly Hills to be closer to their celebrity targets.

BACK TO REALITY

But the lavish lifestyle, West Hollywood's parties, the smell of cash, and the pursuit of exclusive images all left their mark.

Posthumus experienced a kind of burnout at one point and finally decided to put an end to the crazy paparazzi period.

Thank god, the reason has triumphed. With the birth of his  daughter he returned back to Germany to be with his family. But his life journey was not finished yet.

NEW LIFE IN IRELAND

What to expect in a place where it just rains and people sit drunk in the pub, Posthumus wondered when his wife initially lured him to Ireland years ago. She already arranged for him and their new born little princess to take a flight to Ireland when he had just landed in Germany back from sunny Los Angeles.

He had no idea that he would fall in love with this island. There was so much to learn about and he had to stop every few kilometers. Sometimes an old ruin, a graveyard, or the sky's light, which created strange new patterns every minute. He agreed to give up life in Germany and plunge into the adventure of Ireland.

Today, he lives a secluded life with his wife and daughter on the edge of the Ox Mountains on Ireland's west coast, far away from the hectic paparazzi life of Beverly Hills. He prefers the tranquility of nature, evenings by the fire with the smell of peat and a good glass of wine.
